Just do it
This famous Nike tagline is a catchy motto for more than just sporting apparel. It applies to may aspects of life because it’s simple enough to cover most bases. My motivation for these words tonight, is not to write. Instead, to spend less time time alone and not be so tight. I need to be looser. More relaxed about my true extroverted self. I had the last two days off, and instead of spending them with people and making memories, I spent most of them inside, and alone, right behind this very screen. It is becoming easier to recognize this is an activity I need less of in life. I am getting comfortable again, and that is not acceptable.
I know it’s difficult to make new friends as an adult, but its not really THAT hard. It can still be done. Plus, you’ll never meet them if you aren’t out in the world, actively pursuing happiness. Back to work this week, but with fresh intentions of making life happy. I have to keep telling myself that over and over, and it seems to be working so far.
To use another oversimplified phrase that applies to a wide variety of topics; fake it till you make it. I’m not a writer, but I’m going to tell myself I am until it’s a fact. I am not always happy, but I don’t let that stop me from acting like I am. The human mind is the most powerful tool available to us on earth. Learning to recondition and train your brain is mind blowing and insane. Mountains play a key roll in my training. I saw these words written by Rene Daumal inside the Colorado Mountaineering Museum
“You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.”
Seeing the world from a different perspective teaches us lessons that are not soon forgotten. If we continue to seek out new perspectives, our knowledge and understanding of this world grows dramatically. I need to begin working with people and learning from their unique perspectives to better understand my own place. Teachers are everywhere, you just have to introduce yourself.
