Extrovert! Who Me? Couldn’t be.

Extrovert! Who Me? Couldn’t be.

Have you ever taken a personality test? You know the tests. The Myers-Briggs is one of the most popular and it’s frighteningly accurate. I recently took this test several times and despite my disbelief and intentional changing of answers, I wound up with the same result every single time. ENFP-A. (The Campaigner for those who clicked on the link)

I always find this answer to be astonishing for me. Because I don’t think of myself as an extrovert. I spend an alarming amount of my time alone and would never refer to myself as a socialite. However, something about being around crowds of people at concerts, sporting events, farmers markets… seems to give me an energy I seldom feel by myself. Embracing the energy of others around me has been one of the best decisions I have made. I love being around people. First time I’ve typed that, it feels good.

This has been a recent and interesting discovery for me this year. How I haven’t noticed it before I’m not sure, but people are by far the most interesting part of any place. You can have the most beautiful natural landscape in the world, but without great people around it, it would turn dull and unappealing. Luckily, those gorgeous adult playgrounds tend to attract the most fun and fascinating people and I am beginning to feel like one of them.

For those of you who have never seen me in shorts, I wear one long compression sock on my left leg. It was awkward at first, dealing with the strange looks in public, matching with seventy year old’s on half my lower limbs, the funky tan line, but now it’s my thing. I love this one long sock and embrace it daily. In a recent conversation with a girl who was cutting my hair, she referred to it as the “lucky sock.” She and I were involved in one of my favorite past times. Having an amazing conversation about nothing. She pointed out that the sock fit me perfectly because I like to do strange and random things, and the sock was along as a herald. Announcing my unique, outgoing, and somewhat strange philosophy on life. The sock was just along for the ride, letting everyone know “there is something a little odd about this one.” It speaks the truth.

I will forever believe my life is a great adventure and treat every moment in it accordingly. Whether it be taking out the trash, going on a bike ride, or hiking through the Grand Canyon. If you weigh every moment in your life equally, you begin to see value in the simple beauty that life, and random strangers can bring you.
