Moving Across the Country… Again

Moving Across the Country… Again

The day approaches, the packing begun, only four more moons till I drive to the setting sun. This weekend I am moving back to my favorite state. Time almost seems to be standing still right now, but I know that come August I will be flying once again. The current plan is to take the van out to Colorado, spend the night in the mountains, then onto what I hope will be my final destination. Moab. Salt Lake waits with a job and open arms if something goes wrong. But in my dreams there is only one city where I belong.

Regardless of what happens, I am excited for the journey, for it is the true destination of life. Embarking on this next adventure I set forth with solid footing made from a good plan. If no other factors were included in my joy for the future, that would be enough. But when you add in the rousing and radical possibilities of my upcoming journey my imagination keeps climbing.

I have decided if Salt Lake is to be my destination, my home will be the van. I know that doesn’t sound like a plan, but man… home would be at the control of my hands. I would be able to reside in Park City, avoid the I-80 commute, bike to work, and live free of room mates and rent. With a free ski pass in the mix I could invest as much time on the slopes as I could get my edges on. It has been years since I have skied full season and that is one of the best benefits of the job with Vail. Now that I am thinking about it, would I rather ski or board? I will have to save that choice for when the time comes.

The adventures contained around the oasis of Southern Utah known as Moab are the opposite of few and far between. Copious and close together. Living there would be like waking from a dream, only to find that you are in one. (I think there was a movie about this, but for some reason Utah was mysteriously un-involved.)  I interview at the hospital next week to find out what chances I have at making that my reality. Interviewing in person is one of my strong suits and my back up tracks have already been laid. What must be done now is to persuade. If that doesn’t work than I will start in Salt Lake, and begin the next charade.

My favorite yogi-ism (click for fun) has always been “If you see a fork in the road, take it.”

This weekend I will be at my fork. It lies at the intersection of I-70 and Highway 191.

Time to take it.
